The things that come back to haunt me
And walk my room at night
Can be nothing at all like a dream
That will vanish in the light
They're memories from long ago
That lodge inside your brain
They're memories of your first love
When you can't remember her name.
They used to say what's in a name
Well, I've got the face in a picture frame
Let's say the passing years are to blame
I can't remember her name.
Just her name would complete the story
It's on the tip of my tongue
I see her face, I smell her hair It's her name that just won't come
And I wonder if it really matters
There's no warmth in a long dead flame
You never forget your first love
But I can't remember her name.
